Chaplain Ray Foster

Chaplain Ray Foster was a great Navy Chaplain and a friend to every Marine. We are sorry to hear of his passing.




Fr. Raymond Foster, Order of Carmelites, died May 28, 2011. He was 64. Fr. Ray was born in Chicago, IL, on December 30, 1946, to the late Raymond and Dorothy Foster. He entered the Carmelites in 1965, and was ordained a priest in 1973. Among his assignments: Physics teacher at Carmel High School in Mundelein, IL, Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, IL, and Joliet Catholic Academy in Joliet, IL.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a Regimental Chaplain, and was a member of the Chaplain Corps of the U.S. Navy Reserve, being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1998. He is survived by his brothers, Daniel (Rena Lockwood), Christopher (Teresa) and James (Susanna); and by his sisters, Hedwig (Richard) Lovito and Julie (Gregg) Sunday; nieces and nephews Rick Iovito, Danielle (John) Newquist, Karl and Peter Foster and Sarah Sunday; one great-niece, Miriam Newquist.


Visitation will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2212 McDonough St., in Joliet, IL, on Thursday, June 2, 2011, from 3 to 8 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will take place at St. Jude Catholic Church on Friday, June 3, 2011, at 10 a.m. Interment following at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fr. Ray's Memorial Fund at Joliet Catholic Academy, 1200 N.
